Administration

The Deer Lakes administrative team is dedicated to providing children with the best programs and services available. Members of the team are responsible for implementing the board's educational mission and serving as the liaison between the board, teachers, parents, students, local government and residents. To enhance their skills and keep abreast of leading-end trends in education, administrative team members regularly attend academic conferences to review, study and analyze the latest in educational research. They meet regularly with professional colleagues and the elected Deer Lakes board of school directors to upgrade the level of education in the district.

Professional Staff

Recognizing the importance of a quality professional staff, the Deer Lakes School District makes an effort to hire only the best and brightest. While the educators are already well-qualified and prepared to teach, they continually upgrade their skills and knowledge with staff development programs.

The district employs 155 professional staff members who have an average of 20 years of teaching experience. Sixty percent of the staff have advanced degrees.

Support Staff

A dedicated team of secretaries, bus drivers, mechanics, aides, maintenance workers, custodians and food service employees provide tactical support for the Deer Lakes School District. With their assistance, district operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Accreditation for Growth

On May 1, 2003, following an extensive review by a Middle States evaluation team, Deer Lakes High School received its validation for "Accreditation for Growth" (AFG).

Two AFG objectives of Cross Curricular Writing and Computer Technology Usage and Application will be the focus of achievement over the next four years. Both objectives are student performance based and are securely supported by valid assessments and action-implementation.

Focusing on these two important areas will enable our students to greatly improve their communication and computer skills by the year 2006.

The advantages of being recognized as an accredited high school is vital because it is a validation from outside sources and gives the students more respected profiles in their future endeavors - college, employment, or the military - when they are graduates from an accredited high school.

Community Relations

Only through open lines of communication will children get the best education possible. That's why the Deer Lakes School District works hard to build solid relationships with parents and community members.

The parent organizations are active and involved, organizing many valuable programs for the schools. The P.T.G. (Parent Teacher Group) supports the primary and intermediate schools by hosting fund-raisers, academic programs and extra-curricular activities for the students.

The district also has many booster organizations that support the school's extracurricular activities.

While parents are crucial to school success, the district also recognizes the importance of sharing community resources. During the school year, the district sponsors special events for senior citizens and the general public. These include various student productions such as plays, concerts and holiday dinners.

Many residents take advantage of the district's attractive and well-maintained facilities. Community members and organizations use classrooms as well as the auditorium, pool, stadium and track throughout the year.

The district keeps residents informed of these activities with its annual school calendar and community newsletter, The Scribe. More timely information is published regularly in local newspapers and on the district's web sites: www.deerlakes.net.

Use of Student Photos and Interviews for Publicity

Individual and/or group interviews, photographs or videotapes of students may be taken during the school year for use in district publications, video productions, newspapers, on television, on community web sites and the district's web site. These methods are used to inform the community about the district's educational philosophy as well as its programs, services and special events. The Deer Lakes School District also facilitates positive media publicity by arranging for interviews and/or photographs of its students.

If you DO NOT want your child's photograph to appear in any of these publications or on the Internet, and/or if you DO NOT want your child to be interviewed for publicity purposes, please notify your child's building principal in writing.
