This list contains local, national and scholarship web search sites in which you may be interested. If the Guidance Office has copies and/or information on these, it will be stated with the general information given below. It is our intention to update this list periodically as new scholarship possibilities are made available.
GUIDANCE OFFICE PROCEDURE FOR COMPLETING COLLEGE APPLICATIONS
- If you are completing a paper application, please complete your section & attach any recommendation letters and supplemental forms such as counselor forms & mid year reports. After completion, bring your application to the guidance office. We will then complete our portion & attach your transcript (which has all of your SAT/ACT scores), along with your schedule and/or grades. We will only call you down to the Guidance Office if there are questions regarding your application.
- If you have applied online, please stop in the guidance office & pick up a gold online application form which you will complete & return to us along with any recommendation letters and supplemental forms such as counselor forms and mid year reports. Please be sure to sign & date this form. We will then complete our port & attach your transcript along with your schedule and/or grades. And again, we will only call you down to the Guidance Office if there are any questions regarding your application.
Along with your application, we also send a post card with your name/school on it. Once they receive your information, they are to sign & date this post card & return it to us as verification that your information was received. YOU DO NOT NEED TO CONTACT THE SCHOOL. Due to the amount of applications we receive daily, please allow us 7 - 10 days to process each application.

- SunTrust Education Loans - Student Loans from SunTrust Education Loans. (Students register on this site and are eligible to win a $1,000 scholarship for their first year college expenses by applying online to the SunTrust Off To College Scholarship Sweepstakes. One drawing will be done every two weeks.)
- Weekly Scholarship Alert Service - WeeklyScholarshipAlert.com is the free service that delivers a manageable 1 to 5 college scholarship announcements to your inbox each week.
- www.discovercolleges.com - provides a free private college information service as well as a $2,500 private college scholarship drawing. Students log onto the site to request information and are automatically entered into the drawing.
- www.axa-achievement.com - provides resources that help make college possible through access to more than 1.3 million a year in scholarships on the national and local levels. The site also is a comprehensive resource for information to help students and parents plan for college.
- www.TuitionFundingSources.com - TFS is a private program available only to students at schools selected by Pepsi-Cola, of which Deer Lakes is one. New scholarships are added daily to this site. On average more than 5,000 new awards are added every month. The website also contains college and career information including athletic scholarships, personality tests and career aptitude tests.
Login Instructions are as follows:
- Go to www.TuitionFundingSources.com and click on Login and then the “First Time User?” link.
- Select the state where you live and school you attend.
- Enter your email address as your username and then create a password.
- Students wanting to use the automatic letter writing feature in the website will also need to enter their name and address. This information is secure and will never be shared with anyone.
- Registration is now complete. You can access the TuitionFundingSources.com website with your username (email address) and password from any computer that is connected to the internet.

Help Johnny Scholarship
Deadline: October 25, 2010
This $5000 scholarship is available to any student that is 19 years or under, as of October 25, 2010 and is renewable.

PENNSYLVANIA ELKS STATE ASSOCIATION MOST VALUABLE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Deadline: December 1, 2010
Application for this scholarship are available online @ www.elks.org for the Elks National Foundation 2010-2011 Most Valuable Student Scholarship. This contest is open to students in the graduating class of 2011. Applications are also available by contacting your local Elks lodge office. The Exalted Rulers or Secretaries of the Elks Lodge in your area should be available to answer any questions you may have concerning the applications. The find the nearest Elks Lodge, please go to www.wlks.org/lodges and enter the first three digits of your zip code. Instructions and guidelines are also provided online. Any deviation or incomplete applications will disqualify the applicant. Each applicant must be approved by the Lodge with which it is filed.
PHEAA NEW ECONOMY TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Deadline: December 31, 2010
This scholarship provides for Pennsylvania students who are pursuing higher education and training in science and technology fields. Two different scholarships – The SciTech Scholarship & the Technology Scholarship.
Criteria:
- Be a domiciliary of the Commonwealth of Pa.
- Be a high school graduate.
- Be enrolled at a PHEAA – Approved Pa. School
- Maintain a 3.0 GPA or equivalent during postsecondary study; this will be checked annually.
- Commence employment in PA in a field related to a NETS approved program of study within one year after completion of studies and continue employment one year for each academic year (two semesters or three quarter terms) of full-time NETS funds received. Each full-time semester award carries a six-month work obligation and each full-time quarter award carries a four-month work obligation. Funds received for part-time terms require a proportionally shorter work obligation. A deferment of the employment obligation is available for those students who enroll in full-time graduate/undergraduate study within one year of the student’s receipt of a baccalaureate degree
- Apply for a Federal Pell Grant and Pennsylvania State Grant by completing the 2010-11 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Apply on-line @ www.pheaa.org/fafsa.

Robert Morris University B. Kenneth Simon Free Enterprise Scholarship
Deadline: February 25, 2011
This scholarship is intended to assist prospective students to Robert Morris University who demonstrate an understanding of the values of free enterprise. Our recipient per year is chosen to receive the B. Kenneth Simon Free Enterprise Scholarship. The scholarship is renewable for four years and has a value of $6,000 per year, or a total value of $24,000 over four years. Students who complete the entire application process and essay but are not chosen as the Scholarship recipient may be eligible to receive additional scholarship funds in addition to what they were awarded previously. Students applying for the scholarship must possess a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Students also must possess a combined SAT score of 1100 (critical reading and math) or higher or an act composite score of 24 or better. Students must submit a research paper of between 2, 500 and 3,000 words on a topic to be established annually by the scholarship committee. Please refer to the B. Kenneth Simon Free Enterprise Scholarship Selection Criteria sheet within this packet of information for additional criteria that must be met in order to apply for the scholarship. 2011 PPG INDUSTRIES FOUNDATION COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Deadline: June 1, 2011
This scholarship is for high school junior students who will be completing their high school & entering college in the fall of 2011.
In the 2011 competition year, a total of twenty eight scholarships will be awarded throughout the United States in local PPG communities.
The 2011 PPG Industries Foundation Community Scholarship Program will include all eligible junior students who enter the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the October 2009 PSAT/NMSQT.
Entry forms are no longer needed - if students advance in the 2011 competition, school will be contacted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
