Deer Lakes and AW Beattie pair advance to SkillsUSA statewide competition

Deer Lakes seniors Fallon Persinger (Pin Design) and Diana Navarette (Job Interview) have each placed first in their respective competition areas of the District 8 SkillsUSA competition at A.W. Beattie Career Center in January and have earned the right to be among 27 students representing the technical school at the statewide SkillsUSA competition, April 11-12 in Hershey.

This will mark Navarette’s second trip to Hershey after finishing in the top five of last year’s statewide competition. “I think having done it before is a big advantage because now I know what to expect,” she said.

An aspiring graphic designer, Persinger’s pin design is of an outline of a firefly with many of the state’s iconography represented, especially in its three largest cities: Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg.

Students who earn first place in SkillsUSA Pennsylvania will compete in the national competition, June 24-28 in Louisville, Ky.
