Deer Lakes names Emmonds new business manager
Emmonds HiredDeer Lakes School District has hired Jennifer R. Emmonds, CPA, PRSBO as business manager and board secretary to replace Lori Byron, who in April left Deer Lakes to take a similar position at Highlands School District.

Emmonds, who is slated to start on July 16, was officially hired by the district’s board of school directors, 8-1 at their monthly voting meeting May 15 and will have a prorated annual salary of $100,000.  Phillip Ziendarski of Frazer Township was the lone dissenting vote.

Since 2012, Emmonds has served as the accounting director at Armstrong School District where she was responsible for providing accurate and detailed financial information for state auditors, school officials and other district administrators.  Ms. Emmonds also assisted in the development of policies and procedures that met state and federal regulations.  She also aided in payroll management, accounts payable and human resource operations.

Prior to Armstrong, Emmonds worked at Freeport Area School District as a human resources and student records coordinator.  She also worked as a Certified Public Accountant for McVey & Associates and as a staff accountant for Graper & Associates.

The Carlow University alum earned her master’s degree in School Business Management from Wilkes University in northeastern Pennsylvania.  She is also recognized by the commonwealth as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Pennsylvania Registered School Business Official (PRSBO) by the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials (PASBO).

Deer Lakes School District Superintendent Dr. Janell Logue-Belden is thrilled to add Emmonds to her administrative staff.

“From the start of our interviewing process, Jenn demonstrated a tremendous understanding of accounting and school district business office best practices,” said Logue-Belden, who added that Emmonds comes to Deer Lakes with rave reviews from her previous employers.

“In our discussions with Ms. Emmonds, it became increasingly clear that she shared our core philosophy of careful resource management as a means for providing our students with opportunities,” said Logue-Belden.  “We are very excited to add her to our team.”

The Bethel Township native is excited for her new opportunity.  “I look forward to working collaboratively with the school board, superintendent, staff, and the entire community to help provide the support necessary to give the students of Deer Lakes School District the best educational experience we can,” she said.

Emmonds, who has also worked as a CPA and as a bookkeeper, joins Deer Lakes at a time of stability for the school district, which has managed its resources well in recent years in a financial climate of skyrocketing pension costs and resource shortfalls throughout the state.
