Deer Lakes recognized alongside some of the top public school systems in the region
According to a recent Pittsburgh Magazine analysis of 45 public schools, Deer Lakes rates as among the top half of suburban school districts in the region.

Deer Lakes accrued a composite score of 2.6 out of a possible four to tie it with such well-regarded school districts as Upper St. Clair, South Fayette, Shaler Area and Baldwin-Whitehall.   Deer Lakes was ranked ahead of outstanding school districts like Bethel Park (2.4), Elizabeth Forward (2.4) and West Jefferson Hills (2.2) amongst others.

Fox Chapel led the entire list with a composite score of 3.8 out of four.  Other scores of note included North Allegheny (3.2), Quaker Valley (3.2), Pine Richland (3.0), Hampton (3.0), Mt. Lebanon (2.8), Highlands (2.0) and South Park (1.8).

Pittsburgh Magazine scored the schools using a formula that incorporates the following data:
• SAT scores
• Number of Advanced Placement courses offered
• Whether the district offers all-day kindergarten
• School district tax rate

It would appear that the magazine’s methodology assigns each data point a score from 1 to 4 based on where it ranks relative to other districts on the list.

Deer Lakes’ average SAT score—1,100— also ranked in the top half of all area schools on the list.  Click here to see the entire list.
