Action For Healthy Kids award winner Becky Rinker dedicates plaques in our schools
In March, on behalf of the Deer Lakes Wellness Committee and Action For Healthy Kids (AFHK), Becky Rinker issued plaques to each of Deer Lakes School District’s four schools honoring them for their commitment to student wellness initiatives.

The Action for Healthy Kids Healthy School Hero Award recognizes parents, teachers, students, administrators, school wellness experts and more who have banded together to create healthier learning environments for our children.
Since 2004, AFHK has recognized Healthy School Heroes for their exceptional dedication and service towards the vision, mission, and goals of Action for Healthy Kids through volunteer work in their school community.

Award winners receive a certificate, a $500 award from AFHK to use or to donate to a school of their choice for health and wellness programming, and be featured in our national communications.

All winners meet the following criteria:

• Volunteer in school health
• Work to promote an AFHK program and/or advance the mission of AFHK
• Has worked on school wellness initiatives for more than one school year
• Has not received payment from Action for Healthy Kids.

Rinker, who in 2017 was named one of just 12 National Healthy School Heroes by the Action for Healthy Kids, used the money she received from that award to pay for the plaques.

The next major event for the Wellness Committee is the annual Laps For Learning event at Lancer Stadium, Saturday, April 27 from 8:30-11 a.m.  The entire community is invited to attend the celebration of fitness and the proceeds raised will benefit wellness initiatives at Deer Lakes.
