My name is Charlena Lynn Welteroth and I am the Advanced Language Arts 8 and Language Arts 8 teacher at Deer Lakes Middle School. I have been a teacher in the Deer Lakes School District in varying capacities since 1991. I attended Thiel College where I received a Bachelor of Arts with a major in secondary English and minors in the areas of elementary education and music. I went on to obtain my Masters in Education after being employed by the Deer Lakes School District. I began my journey with Deer Lakes as a high school teacher where I taught Academic and Advanced Academic English on all four grade levels. After seven years at the high school I moved to Deer Lakes Middle School where I taught both 7th and 8th grade Language Arts.
I did not begin my career path as a teacher, but as a nurse. Although I found this time rewarding, my path, from a very young age, has always been teaching. It was not until I was hired as an Anatomy and Physiology and Biology tutor in college that I turned to my real passion--teaching. I firmly believe that every child has the capacity to learn and succeed, and it is my job to inspire children to love learning and to achieve their true potential. I also believe that teachers and parents are both essential partners in a child's success. I make every attempt to keep parents informed about what we are working on in class and how parents can aid in the learning process. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions and concerns that you may have throughout the school year.
I settled in the middle school because I love this age and feel that we, as teachers, can affect real change in the lives of our students during these formative years. Middle school children are most certainly a "fun" mix of anxiety, curiosity, and energy, which makes instructing them a real "adventure." I thank you in advance for sharing your children with me for a short period of time. I take my job very seriously and hope that your child truly enjoys their journey with me.
