Deer Lakes

School District

Chrystie Grant

Hello!  My name is Chrystie Grant and I am the Elementary Technology teacher at Curtisville Primary Center and East Union Intermediate Center.  I have been teaching at Deer Lakes since 2006.  Prior to teaching in the elementary buildings, I taught computers, alternative education math, and provided remedial math support at Deer Lakes Middle School for the first five years of my career.  I was also the Classrooms for the Future Technology Coach at Deer Lakes High School for one year.
I grew up in Robinson Township and graduated from Montour High School.  I currently live in the Avonworth School District with my husband, daughter, son, and two dogs.  I love photography, arts & crafts, and working on projects in our home.

Third Grade focuses on building a strong foundation of technology and word processing skills in Google Docs.  Students learn how to organize their Google Drive and how to properly name, store, and manage their files so they can retrieve them at a later date.  Students also learn and practice how to use proper keyboarding techniques while controlling the keyboard.  Computer Hardware pieces are also taught as well as their role as being input, output, or storage devices.  Introductory Google Docs/Google Drawings lessons then focus on learning the different functions of the Ribbon buttons.  Lesson content includes:
  • Format text – change font, size, color, and alignment
  • Cut, Copy, Paste, and Undo text and ClipArt objects

Fourth Grade utilizes the foundation taught in Third Grade to expand into more lengthy and personalized Google Docs/Google Drawings projects.  Students conduct Internet research and continue their development of word processing and typing proficiency.  Some project topics include:

  • AutoShapes & Fractions
  • Wanted Poster
  • Safari Inn Restaurant Menu
  • Creative Coupons
  • Comic Creations

Fifth Grade continues to use multiple skill sets and multimedia to work on activities and projects that integrate technology into classroom curriculum.  The first semester reviews Google Docs by creating a personalized calendar for the upcoming year.  The second semester then introduces Google Sheets and Google Slides by completing Science based projects.  Lesson content includes:

  • Enter data into a spreadsheet (Google Sheets)
  • Adjust/insert/delete rows & columns (Google Sheets)
  • Use formulas to perform math calculations (Google Sheets)
  • Create & format charts using spreadsheet information (Google Sheets)
  • Format slide background colors and themes (Google Slides)
