5th grade is a transition year where the students should expect to see math homework daily. This year may be different due the covid 19 circumstances. Along with homework, children will be responsible for reviewing for upcoming quizzes, tests, completing projects and assignments. It is important to review daily for social studies and science. Please make sure to review your child's assignment agenda daily.

Profile:

My name is Karen Vandenbord and I am a 5th grade math, social studies, and science teacher at East Union Intermediate Center. I have taught at Deer Lakes since 2000. Prior to Deer Lakes I taught 4th grade at Hartwood Elementary School in Fox Chapel School District and worked in different teaching capacities as well. I graduated from West Virginia University with a BS in Speech Pathology and Audiology. I received a MS in Elementary Education from Duquesne University along with Masters of Science in Administration and Supervision. I have been fortunate to work with dedicated and compassionate people at Deer Lakes. Previous to being hired I hoped to teach math, social studies, and science. When I received the phone call that I was approved by the board to teach math, social studies, and science everything fell into place! I would not change a thing!
