Welcome to Mr. Nolker's Webpage!
2023-2024 School year

Hello! My name is Mr. Nolker and  I am the Autistic Support teacher at East Union. I also support students in the area of math and reading.  I specifically work with the students in Grades 3, 4 and 5 at East Union Intermediate Center. I focus my remediation and assistance in the area of Reading, Language Arts, Writing and Mathematics. I also teach Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) to help learners understand their social thinking, social skills and ways to utilize coping skills to support their behaviors.

I have been teaching in Pennsylvania for 18 years. My background in education comes from a mix of private, public and cyber education. In 2011, I was a long term district substitute for the special education department at Deer Lakes. In all my years of experience, I have taught elementary and special education for 9 years, middle school science for 6 and before those years of service I worked at the Bradley School for behavioral health support.  I also have a background in curriculum instruction and design. Before Deer Lakes, I was designing a middle school science curriculum for grades 6-8.  I am a Deer Lakes graduate myself and I am excited to work with your family this year!

For all assignments- please see your child's GOOGLE CLASSROOM- Thank you!

ELA and Math

Snapshot into ELA and Math Homework

3rd and 4th Grade - ELA Homework
Students are given a weekly spelling,  vocabulary and reading fluency assignment on Monday.
We will have a spelling and reading test each Friday.  Fluency is checked daily within my classes.
We are utilizing a program called RAZ KIDS for reading support.

5th Grade - ELA and weekly Homework
Students are given a weekly spelling,  vocabulary and reading fluency assignment on Monday.
In addition, fifth grade students enter the world of novels. Students attend a core reading program and then join in the learning support classroom for additional support with vocabulary and novel work.

MATH HOMEWORK
Math homework is rarely assigned because we work during class on practice problems and understanding the weekly skill we are focusing on in class.  For Math this year we are utilizing a program called I KNOW IT in addition to our regular work in the Google Classroom.
