Deer Lakes

School District

Traci Clendaniel

Profile:

My name is Traci Clendaniel. I have taught in the Deer Lakes School District since beginning my career in 1997. During that time I have held a variety of teaching positions within the district.

After graduating from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree with a Hearing Impaired Certification, I started my Deer Lakes career teaching deaf students.

I was transferred to the middle school when that position ended and served as the Gifted Coordinator for grades six through eight. I continued my education earning my Master of Education degree with Elementary Certification and Middle Level Certification, and have taught science, reading, and language arts across grades six through eight. I am currently a sixth grade ELA teacher.

I believe that every child has the ability to learn. When you enter my classroom you will see a variety of methodologies meant to enhance the individual learning styles and needs of my students. I work to foster a classroom community built upon a feeling of mutual respect between teacher and students.

I reside in Canonsburg, Pa., with my husband and two children. My free-time is filled with supporting my children in the sports they love. My son wrestles and plays baseball, and my daughter is a competitive cheerleader. When I am not cheering on my children, you will find me spending time with extended family and friends.

Assignments:

Students must come to class prepared and ready to be an active participant in class discussions and lessons. It is expected that all homework and assignments are completed on time. Incomplete or late homework will only be accepted one day late for half credit. As outlined in board policy, homework will count for no more than 15% of the term grade. Students in Advanced Language Arts will also be required to complete long term assignments and projects. These assignments will be deducted five points for each day the assignment is late.

Students are expected to read outside of class on a daily basis. All students must log a total of 100 independent reading minutes each week. Minutes will be logged on Biblionasium (www.biblionasium.com) and are due each Monday. There will also be weekly Study Island review lessons.

Homework, assignments, and upcoming tests will be posted weekly. It is the responsibility of the student to check the absent bin for assignments and handouts following an absence, and to see the teacher with questions.

Reminders for upcoming tests and project due dates are sent out via the Remind 101 app. Both parents and students are encouraged to register to receive these updates. The app is free to download and all phone numbers remain private. Join by texting @g9fb2c to the number 81010, or online at rmd.at/g9fb2c.
