Congratulations to Alanna Wise, Bella Colucci and Natalie Shaffer who earned Regional Scholastic Art and Writing Awards!
Alanna and Bella, who are seniors, competed in the ceramics and glass category. Natalie, who is a sophomore, competed in the ceramics, photography and digital art categories.
Alanna and Natalie earned Silver and Gold Keys, and Bella earned Honorable Mention and Silver Keys.
“I’m excited and really proud,” Alanna said. “It’s so interesting that this work is in a way comparable to artists like Andy Warhol who competed when he was in high school. To have that in common is a true honor.”
“I was really shocked to find out I placed,” Bella added. “It feels nice to have this recognition after putting so many hours into it and so much thought into it. It’s great to see something that has meant so much to me in high school be acknowledged on this level.”
This was Natalie’s first time participating in an art competition.
“I thought it was cool that there was an art competition to give students an opportunity for recognition, and each category had its own challenges,” Natalie said. “It’s also more about much you challenge yourself and push yourself and taking ideas from your imagination to paper and finally to a completed project. I like ideas that are unique and unusual, so that’s what I tried.”
