As an extension of the Seamless Summer Option program, Deer Lakes School District will provide breakfast and lunch to all students in the district at no charge during the 2021-2022 school year!

No further action is required from students or guardians. That being said, we do encourage families to fill out the Free/Reduced Applications as there are many other benefits that come along with it. Families are encouraged to apply online at schoolcafe.com/deerlakes.net or contact us to receive a paper application. Students will be charged for ala carte and extra items.

Please understand that applying for Free/Reduced meals is solely for documentation purposes. The Approval/Denial of the application will have no effect on whether your child(ren) will receive free meals.

The SSO program funded the Grab N’ Go operation, in which parents with children 18 and under could pick up free meal packs throughout the summer and at various times last school year.

In the month of January, Deer Lakes staff handed out a total of 36,862 free meals (breakfast and lunches combined), the most of any month for the Grab N’ Go program. 

“Originally the Grab N’ Go program started with 12 students on the high side,” Deer Lakes Food Services Director Jacob Douglas said. “The program is designed so that all individuals can partake. Our staff has done a fantastic job of spreading the word and communicating this to everyone possible. We urged everyone that came through to spread the word as best as possible.”

More than 20 staff members made the Grab N’ Go program possible.

“One thing I want to stress the most is how proud I am of my staff,” Jacob said. “They all have a positive attitude and understand the impact the SSO program has on our community. They understand now more than ever the importance of creating connections with students and families. Everyone loves to see the smiles on children’s’ faces as they come through the line whether it’s outside for Grab N’ Go or inside during the school year.”
