Lady Lancers Advance to WPIAL Class AA Championship for Second Straight Season
Deer Lakes Lady Lancers defeat Beaver, 11-7, and advance to the WPIAL Class AA championship game for the second straight season. The defending-champion and top-seeded Lancers (18-0) play No. 3 Riverside (18-0) at 2 p.m. next Thursday at California (Pa.) University.
An Evening with the Arts
"An Evening with the Arts" was presented by the Deer Lakes School District featuring the works and performances of the students' from the District's Fine Arts and Industrial Arts Departments.
Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils
Congratulations to Deer Lakes Middle School eighth grade students, Joella Miller and Tyler Raub, and sixth grade students, Carley Seibert and Megan Winters, who were presenters at the Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils on March 27, 2013 at Chartiers Valley High School. These young leaders presented their workshops to student council members from all across Allegheny County. Joella and Tyler's workshop is titled, "Think Outside the Box". Their workshop is designed to allow students to think more freely and develop creative ideas. Carley and Megan's workshop is titled, "The Choice for Me is Bully Free". Their workshop focused on how to recognize bullying, prevent bullying, and help people to realize the value of their individuality.
Spanish Honor Society Induction
Seventeen new members were inducted into the Rosalia de Castro chapter of the Spanish National Honor Society on May 10, in a ceremony attended by family, friends, and students in the high school auditorium. Spanish National Honor Society president Morgan McCrimmon, presided over the candlelight ceremony and presented each new inductee with a certificate and carnation.
Deer Lakes School District Stages Mock Accident as Prom/Graduation Season Begins
Deer Lakes School District in conjunction with the West Deer Township Police Department conducted a Mock Accident on Friday, May 10 in the Deer Lakes High School parking lot. Students in eleventh and twelfth grade were able to witness the possible tragedy of a fatal traffic accident, offering a timely reminder to drive safely with the upcoming prom and graduation season. Assisting the West Deer Township Police Department were members of West Deer Volunteer Fire Companies #288, #289, #290, West Deer E.M.S., and Allegheny General Hospital's Life Flight Helicopter.
Deer Lakes Outstanding Young Citizen's Bring Home the Gold
Fifty Outstanding Young Citizen awardees were honored at the annual Outstanding Young Citizens awards banquet held on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at the Four Points by Sheraton in Mars, PA. The event is sponsored by Trib Total Media and the Valley News Dispatch and this year, parents, school administrators, family and friends nominated 294 students representing 34 school districts for this honor.
Distinguished Alumni
Six distinguished alumni were recognized at an awards recognition dinner and ceremony on Friday, April 26, at Deer Lakes High School.
Deer Lakes Band Concert Date Change
The Deer Lakes Spring Band Concert will be held on Wednesday, May 29th at 7:00pm in the high school auditorium.
"In partnership with the community, the Deer Lakes School District will provide a dynamic, comprehensive educational program and support services necessary to meet the diverse needs of all students in a safe, caring environment, thus enabling them to reach their potential as responsible, productive citizens."
The Deer Lakes School District has been designated as a Tobacco Free Zone. The use of all tobacco products is now prohibited on all Deer Lakes School District grounds and facilities.
