Deer Lakes' Jaros named National Association of Student Councils (NASC) Middle Level Advisor of the Year
Albuquerque, NM – The National Association of Student Councils (NASC) announced today during its annual national convention in Albuquerque, NM that it has chosen Deer Lakes' Middle School guidance counselor and student council advisor Jackie Jaros as its 2015 NASC Warren E. Shull National Middle Level Advisor of the Year.
School board recognizes prolific readers, softball team
WEST DEER, Pa. – Prolific readers Elizabeth Strang and Logan Yeager were honored for their efforts at the June voting meeting of the Deer Lakes Board of School Directors. Elizabeth earned an amazing 930.5 Accelerated Reader points and Logan earned 779.8 AR points. Each shattered the previous East Union Intermediate School record for AR points in a year set by Andrew Edinger at 535.9.
Future Ready Regional Summit
Deer Lakes School District's Leadership Team to Participate in Future Ready Regional Summit in Pittsburgh
WEST DEER, Pa. – Deer Lakes is sending a team of school district leaders to downtown Pittsburgh June 22-23, to participate in the next of 13 Future Ready Regional Summits, designed to help district leaders improve teaching and learning through the effective use of technology. President Obama announced the regional summits at the ConnectED to the Future Convening, hosted at the White House Nov. 19, 2014. The summit is being hosted by the U.S. Department of Education and the Alliance for Excellence in Education in conjunction with the Elizabeth Forward School District at the University of Pittsburgh William Pitt Student Union.
Jonathan Merlo was named the $1000 Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Recipient
Comcast, joined by John Hanger, Secretary of Planning and Policy for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and other government officials, recognized Jonathan Merlo and other Pennsylvania recipients at a special event held on May 12th at the State Museum of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg.
