The Deer Lakes High School drama department will present, You Can’t Take It With You
this weekend, February 8-10, 2019 in the high school auditorium. The Friday and Saturday performances will begin at 7 p.m., with the Sunday matinee starting at 2 p.m. General admission tickets to the show are $8 each and can be purchased at the door.
The production will be the first in school history to be entirely run by students. Mara Van Thiel cast and will direct the play; Noah Glaister designed and constructed the set and will arrange the lighting; and Kiera Cutright designed the costumes.
Set in the summer of 1938 in New York City, the classic comedy introduces audiences to the freethinking Sycamore family and the mishaps and mayhem that ensue when their daughter’s fiancé brings his conservative, straight-laced parents to dinner on the wrong night.
The play premiered on Broadway in 1936, won the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and in 1939, the screen adaptation won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Director.
Serendipitously, You Can’t Take It With You
was also the very first production ever performed at Deer Lakes High School, 50 years ago. If you happen to know anyone from that original cast, we would love to invite them as our guest to this weekend’s performances. Please contact the drama department at Camile.M.Smith@gmail.com
