Campus Safety and Security

Student and staff safety are the school district's top priorities and we are proud to say that Deer Lakes School District has often been ranked among the safer school districts in Allegheny County.  The Deer Lakes Department of Public Safety is committed to providing a safe environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors.

We work closely with local law enforcement and have a school resource officer in each school building. We employ police officers along with a district security administrator and security guards and support staff to:
  • Provide security and law enforcement
  • Prevent crime
  • Increase safety awareness
  • Security Systems and Services
Every effort is made to identify and prevent dangerous situations on our campus. However, in the event of an emergency, several communication methods and services are available to enhance the safety of the campus.

The district will utilize ParentSquare in the event of weather-related delays or cancellations. Also, if there were an emergency you would be notified via ParentSquare.

It is important for you to notify your child's school office with any changes in your home telephone, cell phones, or work numbers.

Act 55 - Threat Assessment Information
Act 55 requires districts to annually ensure that students, school employees, and parents are informed of the existence and purpose of the threat assessment team. Threat Assessment was added to the PA School Code.  This law requires that schools establish threat assessment teams, procedures, and reporting protocols.  The threat assessment process is a prevention strategy used to identify and assess threats of violence before the act occurs.
