Curtisville Primary welcomes new Speech and Language Therapist

Please join us in welcoming Ms. Ashley Strachan who is Curtisville Primary's newest Speech and Language Therapist!


She will additionally provide instruction as part of Curtisville's Tier 3 Reading Program.


"I am beyond excited to join the Deer Lakes family as I had already witnessed this tight knit community during my externship," Ms. Strachan said. "Every professional here at Deer Lakes has a passion for teaching and helping students. The teamwork that exists in the DL district is inspiring."


Ms. Strachan attended Clarion University - now Pennsylvania Western - for her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Speech-Language Pathology. Additionally, she earned a minor in special education. 


Ms. Strachan has previously worked with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit at Pine-Richland High School, Wexford Elementary, and Sunrise School. She also completed 2 externships, one of which was at Curtisville Primary. 


"I chose to be a speech therapist because I love helping students find power in their ability to communicate," Ms. Strachan said. "I chose to work in education because I wanted to help students find their voice and use it well."

What do you enjoy when you’re not teaching?

I enjoy hiking and exploring parks and trails. If it is cold outside, I enjoy cooking, baking, and eating good food. 


What’s at the top of your bucket list?

I hope to find the time to learn another language. 


If you could have a superpower what would it be?

This may be cliche as an SLP, but I think it would be really convenient to be able to read other people's thoughts. 


What’s your favorite family recipe?

I come from a long line of family home cooks, so it is hard to pick a favorite. Right now I am enjoying baking bread with my mom’s passed down sourdough starter. 


What’s your favorite dessert?

Easiest question - cheesecake!!!
