Solomon named Extra Effort Award

Congratulations to Deer Lakes senior Josh Solomon, who was recently recognized by KDKA-TV | CBS Pittsburgh as the Allegheny Health Network Extra Effort Award winner.  Bob Pompeani was on hand to present Josh a check for $200 on behalf of Allegheny Health Network. The segment will air on the Feb. 22, 2017 six o'clock news at approximately 6:40 p.m.

District, teachers reach contract agreement

The Deer Lakes Board of School Directors approved a new five-year contract with the Deer Lakes Educators Association (DLEA), the professional organization for the school district’s 141 certified teachers, nurses and guidance counselors, at its monthly voting meeting. The new pact is retroactive to July 1, 2017 and will run through June 30, 2022. More +

Upcoming trips to Seven Springs and Hidden Valley

Deer Lakes will be scheduling trips to Seven Springs and Hidden Valley again this year. The ski club is open to Deer Lakes students in grades 6 – 12. No prior skiing or snowboarding experience is needed. School buses accident

Earlier today, as students were making their way home for the holiday break, a motor vehicle accident involving two Deer Lakes school buses occurred on Saxonburg Blvd. near Stonecrest Dr. in West Deer Township. The accident happened when one of the Deer Lakes school buses appeared to slide into the one in front of it. No other vehicles were involved in the crash and fortunately, nobody was injured. More +

School Board elects Lupone president, Buck vice president at annual reorganization meeting

The Deer Lakes Board of School Directors welcomed three new members at their annual reorganization meeting.  The new board members are Eric J. Bienick, Kristi Minnick and Vic Laurenza Jr.    The school board also elected William Lupone Jr. as its new president and Louis W. Buck as vice president at the meeting.  They replace Clara Salvi and Lisa Merlo as president and vice president respectively.

Husband and wife entertainers to speak to Deer Lakes Middle School students

As part of its Career Spotlight series, Deer Lakes Middle School will welcome actor Patrick Fabian and his wife Mandy, a screenwriter and voice over actress, Monday at 1 p.m., in the Deer Lakes Middle School Innovation Center.  The series is part of the school district’s comprehensive K-12 Guidance Plan, which focuses on career readiness.

Outgoing school board members honored

In November, Deer Lakes School Board members, Mr. James McCaskey, Mrs. Lisa Merlo, and Ms. Clara Salvi, were each recognized for their collective 25 plus years of service at the regularly scheduled school board voting meeting.  The trio, each of whom is retiring from the board in December, were presented certificates adding them to the PSBA “Honor Roll of School Board Service.” More +

In an initiative that began last year and will be fully integrated at all four schools this year, school counselors are implementing a new comprehensive Chapter 339 School Counseling Plan that focuses on a number of growth areas including college and career readiness. More +

A.W. Beattie Career Center and Waynesburg University are partnering to provide the opportunity for A.W. Beattie students to earn Waynesburg University credits while in high school, enabling them to get a head start on their bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. More +
