My name is Kortnie Mackowski and I teach Art in grades kindergarten through fifth at Curtisville and East Union Intermediate center. I have taught at Deer Lakes since 2011.
In art we explore various techniques, artists, media, art history and subjects in art. Students will focus on the basic skills in art: elements and principles of design, drawing, painting, mixed media, clay fiber arts, and printmaking. Art is all around us and it begins with our perspective, I hope that my students learn to appreciate the subtle things while also being able to appreciate works of art and their contexts. Creativity, originality, neatness, design, composition, and expression are encouraged in all works of art. Sometimes the process of actually creating the art is better than the end result! My ultimate goal as an educator is to develop a classroom environment that will allow my students to become excited about art.
