My name is Tammy McQueen. I am a 5th grade teacher.
I began my teaching career as an emotional support teacher in an approved private school in the city of Pittsburgh. I joined the Deer Lakes teaching team in 2003 and taught fifth grade for the first four years. My enjoyment of experiential and project-based learning led me to a gifted support position in the fall of 2007 until the 2022-23 school year.
I enjoy working with children and helping them reach for their dreams through their education. I believe every child should be valued and treated with respect. An education should empower a child and help him or her make a positive contribution to our world.
I have a beautiful family of two sons, two daughters-in-law, four grandchildren, and a shiba inu named Finn. The Pittsburgh region has been our home since 1990. We are a Crossfit family and enjoy the bonding that comes with this intense sport. I enjoy being outdoors. During the summer I spend my free-time gardening, hiking, camping, mountain biking, earthing, bird-watching, and picking wild flowers. In the winter, I enjoy quilting, bread baking, chip carving, and reading.
